Eternal Now

26 November 2023

The morning after a tempestuous night, I woke up in my hammock and I peered outside, towards the snowy eastern peaks.

My gaze met that of the sun, who was just coming out of dark mountains.

“Good morning, mighty star!” I said

“You meet me now: at the peak of my stillest hour.

Before today, there was a time, an open sea

That was inexorably calling me.

The stars and the planets were pulling me

A billion years away from here.

Then I saw you, my sign. And the world transformed

Every yesterday and every tomorrow faded

Every nostalgia and every dream

Dissolved into eternal now

Every missing piece

Every sacrifice

Every lost second

Returned right back to me

Every future plan

Every ambition, every fate

Every grand design

Became my inevitable destiny

All this I saw in you, opulent star.

Every morning, you have come onto my cave and given me your gifts. You would have grown tired of your light and of the journey, had it not been for me, my patience and my rationality.

But every morning we waited for you, we received your glowing gift, and blessed you for it.

See, like you, this morning, I am overflowing.

Maybe it is time I return to Earth…

Like you do in the evening, mighty star, when you bring your light to the recesses of the universe.

I may never get back to humanity. But humanity may return to me.”

Thus I rose from my hammock, glowing and strong, like a morning sun rising out of dark mountains.
