The Golden Cup
When Zenith was a youth, he left his town and his mountains, and he went to the largest city of mankind.
There, he discovered what humanity called “happiness”: a bit of venom by day, for a pleasing life; a lot of venom by night, for a pleasing death. In the city of pleasure, nothing else mattered, and his mind became restless. His feet got excited by an all too young happiness, and before he knew it, he was walking on the path of finite things. And for many years he did not tire of it.
But one day, his heart changed. Zenith rose from his bed and looked outside, at the grey-blue sky over the city. The sun had been up and waiting for a long time — or perhaps a short one, for, in truth, a dancing star feels no difference between a moment and eternity.
Looking at the stark light of midday, Zenith turned to his spirit and said:
“Great spirit! Today I am tired of all things human, all too human.
I have seen a future so distant: unsure if I am still mortal.
The centuries flow like rivers in my heart, I cannot stop them. And really, what matters my humanity in front of the wilderness of time?
See, my emotions have grown too large for my small heart.
I shall become an ocean to contain the endless flows of creation within me. I shall take and dilute every good and every evil in the universe, so that my children may breathe pure air, so that a new blood may flow through their veins. The blood of a new humanity.
Like the setting sun, I want to give back profusely, until I have nothing left.
But what wisdom am I to give? My golden cup is still empty. And as I peer inside I see: the reflection of my blonde destiny.
Today, I leave humankind behind.
With time, I may outlive my gravity and unlearn to be silent. So I will fill my golden cup with wisdom again.
And once it will be full, it will spill.
May it spill at midday! And flow to my fellow humans, my children.”
So Zenith took his small heart full of large emotions, and he left the city, headed towards the mountains of the East.
